Amazing Amy Visits Final Round

- May 13th 2023

Amy Bockerstette, or Amazing Amy as many know her, made a special visit to the Clovernook Open.

Amy started playing golf in 8th grade and her natural ability quickly shined.  She played golf all four years in high school and advanced to the Girls Division 1 State Championship.  She went on to play college golf at Paradise Valley Community College where she became the first person with down syndrome to receive a collegiate athletic scholarship.

At the Waste Management Pheonix Open in 2019 Amy was invited to play the 16th hole with Gary Woodland and Matt Kuchar.  Her tee shot landed in the greenside bunker.  As they approached the green Gary Woodland offered to remove her ball from the bunker.  She elected to play from the bunker as she repeated to herself "I Got This".  With the crowd around the 16th hole, and eventually millions on social media watching, Amy played her bunker shot to 10 feet.  In superstar fashion she drained the 10 foot par putt!

Gary Woodland went on to win The US Open later in 2019 and FaceTimed Amy from his press conference.  He said he used her positive energy and told himself "I Got This" throughout his final round.  Amy has won multiple awards and continues to achieve greatness on and off the golf course.  Most recently she has competed in the USGA's US Adaptive Open and won a silver medal at the Special Olympics.
